I haven't stuck to my plan of updating my blog more often. But, I have a lot a news I guess and wanted to write about it. Here goes.

Several weeks ago, the wonderful worship leader at my church stepped down for personal reasons. Therefore, I was asked to take his position. I, of course, said yes. It feels like everything in my life has led up to this.... I've trained and felt like I've been prepared for just this! In 12th grade, I went to a summer camp with my church and during one of the sessions, I felt called to missionary work.... not just any missionary work. I was to be a "music missionary". Now, when you think of "missionary", what do you think of? Africa? the far reaches of the world, etc?? Yes, me too. However, when I say "missionary" here... it means a person who carries the gospel to ANY person. One who furthers the kingdom of God. And that is me.... I am a missionary to the city of Long Beach, to the people at the River Church, to anyone who I come in contact with. And I use music to accomplish this. So when I was asked to use music to further the kingdom of God in my very own church, you can understand why I said yes and why I believe this is exactly what I'm supposed to be doing with my life. I am very excited about what God has for me in this position and the ways he's going to use me to further His kingdom! I started last weekend and it went so very well!!! Thank you, Jesus!

Ever since I had Quinn (my second baby), I lost about 20 lbs and was very happy with where I was weight-wise (even though I was still 20 lbs overweight). But, a couple weeks ago, I started realizing that I need to get this excess weight off. SO, I found out about this website from a friend at church (thanks, Lisa!).... SparkPeople.com. Can we say "AWESOME!"? I used CalorieCount.com before but this site is so much more! You can track your calories, exercise, glasses of water/day, fruit & veggies/day, it gives you sample menus you can use or not, and it gives you sample exercises/strength exercises you can use or not. It also tracks, carbs, fat, protein, etc. SO COOL! So, this past week, I've been using it faithfully and I've already lost a couple pounds! HOORAY! I feel healthier and have more energy! My goal is to lose 20-25 lbs by July. If I continue the way I am now, it should be no problem.

On the family front, things are going well. Quinn is almost 1 year old!!!! He's not walking yet but is very active and getting a little personality all his own! I think we're going to have to watch out for this child!! He's much more curious than Cade and will try most anything. Cade is doing very well... he's holding "conversations" with us and LOVES books. He is also in love with all his grandparents (as they are with him). He always wants them to come over and play with him. Or, he wants to call them on the phone or go over to their house. I love that he loves his family.

Jason and his business is going well. The writer's strike was a bit scary but we got through it. The business is growing and he's doing what he loves.

On the knitting front, things are progressing along. In February, I got to go to Stitches West '08 (a yarn convention of sorts) in Santa Clara, CA. IT WAS SO FUN! I bought some great yarn and I actually have projects for everything I bought. I already made a Clapotis (stole) out of the Brooks Farm yarn I bought. It's beautiful. I have less time to knit and crochet during the day because the kids require lots of attention. But I still get a lot done with the time I have.

Another thing I'm doing is listening to lots of podcasts (mostly knitting related). But, one thing I've always struggled with and something I've always wanted to accomplish is reading through the Bible in a year. I usually start out great but peter out towards the middle. But now, I've discovered the Daily Audio Bible podcast! It goes through the Bible in a year and is read by this great guy in Nashville with this deep voice. It also has some nice music in the background while he reads! Each week is a new translation. It's really great for me because I think I'm more of an audio learner. I'm learning things in a new way about God's Word and it's wonderful!

That's about it for now, I guess. So friends, I did it! I updated my blog! HOORAY!Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-48051364446242314272007-10-20T08:08:00.000-07:002007-10-20T08:14:55.514-07:00Pumpkin PatchWe went to Pa's Pumpkin Patch last Tuesday. My very good friend, Katy, helped me out all that day and even spent the night at the hospital with me! How awesome is that?! Well, now Quinn is almost 2 months old and I have a lot to post as far as what I've been knitting lately. So, count on several blogs coming soon!Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-60198028450920983222007-03-18T11:01:00.000-07:002007-03-18T11:11:37.551-07:00Waiting for baby to arrive...My due date was yesterday and that has come and gone. Still no baby. So, this is what I've been doing to keep my mind off things. I knit 2 little baby cardigans from the book "One Skein Wonders". I used Lion Brand Homespun yarn from my stash and adjusted the pattern to be a little smaller for a newborn size. I also ditched the collar. I thought they looked cuter without it. Here they are on the table:

And then being modeled by Digits, the monkey:

And here we have Beth's Little Star Afghan from this pattern: http://www.angelfire.com/va3/heartfeltangels/littlestarafghan.html
The middle part is a little weird because I was kinda doing it wrong but I fixed the problem in the outer parts. I've decided not to go back and fix the middle. It'll have to just have "character". This was a "stash buster" crochet project using random acrylic yarns.

Here's to hoping the baby comes soon so he can enjoy these handmade projects (before he outgrows them in like 3 months!).Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-66217648199176432132007-03-05T08:23:00.000-08:002007-03-05T08:32:50.107-08:00Self-Designed CardiganWell, this is something I'm very proud of. I designed my own top-down raglan cardigan! I used 3 different stitch patterns from my Reader's Digest Stitch Pattern book and incorporated them into the back, sleeves, front panel, and front edge! I'm really excited by how it turned out. So, here are the specs and pics...

Yarn: Berocco Ultra Alpaca (I forgot the name of the 2 different colors I used)
Needles: Size US 9, 29" circulars
Pattern: Top-Down Raglan with panel inserts from my book (previously named)

(yes, I'm 8 1/2 mos prego and dying to get this kid out!!!)

And here are the close-ups of the panel patterns...

I think this is one of the first sweaters I've made that I will be wearing quite a bit. I'm planning on adding more buttons once I give birth so it can be closed all the way up the front. It's pretty much pointless right now, though. Thanks for looking!Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-87139419521274902732007-02-10T13:12:00.000-08:002007-02-03T12:15:56.946-08:00I'm knitting a sweater(s)...Yeah, I've been catching up on the 2nd season of Grey's Anatomy and cracked up when it got to the part where Meredith was "knitting a sweater" and signing off on men. That's NOT why I'm knitting sweaters. I'm married so I'm signed off on all men besides my husband already. But yeah, I've knit some shrugs and smaller sweaters but just tackled the top-down-raglan that you can make to your own measurements. I used this pattern: http://www.woolworks.org/patterns/raglan.html. It really wasn't as hard as I thought. In fact, it's quite fun and easy! So much that I started another one and then ANOTHER one! Crazy, eh? So, since I'm 8 months pregnant, I'm not going to model the first one for you. I'll have to wait till the baby is born to have it look the way I want it. But here's a pic and the specs.

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft
Needles: Size US 8, 29" circulars and 8 DPN's (for sleeves)
Changes to pattern: I added waist, sleeve, and boob shaping

The next sweater I started is from the newest edition of Vogue Knitting Mag. I had this thick/thin yarn for forever and had started a sweater but never finished because I didn't like how it was turning out. I wasn't sure what I was going to use the yarn for. And then I saw this pattern for thick/thin yarn in VK recently and said to myself, "yes! this is it!". It's a top-down-raglan type of pattern with a random lace pattern. However, I think I'm going to make it longer and long sleeved. I stopped where I'm at right now because I want to try it on after I have the baby for the perfect fit. So, it probably won't get finished for another couple months. But here's what I've started on...

And an up-close of the random lace pattern...

FINALLY, I'm currently working on this from the same pattern as the navy sweater but I'm making it into a cardigan. I had this yarn in my stash for another sweater I was going to make for a gift (it's half-crocheted and I'm not going to finish it). So, here's my progress so far...

You can't really tell how it's going to turn out yet but it's a soft boucle yarn that's mostly grey flecked with tan. More pics to come as the work progresses....

And that's it for now! **PHEW**!Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-45432692982219289102007-02-03T12:05:00.000-08:002007-02-03T12:15:56.985-08:00My ALL-TIME favorite slippersI made like 8 or 9 of these for gifts for Christmas and everyone seems to love them. They are felted slippers (a pattern by Fiber Trends). I recently made another pair... originally for myself but they may end up being a gift for someone else after all. Since I didn't take any pics of the ones I made for Christmas, I decided to post these. Here's a pic before the felting process...

For those of you who don't know, "felting" is a process in which a knitted item (knitted in 100 percent wool or other animal fiber) is agitated in hot water for a period of time until it has shrunk and "felted" to what you want the finished product to look like. It produces a fabric that is sturdy and a bit fuzzy. So, you knit what you want real big and then throw it in the wash (only using the agitating cycle) for a bit and WALAH... you've got a felted product! Here's the finished slippers...

These took me about 6-8 hours to knit and felt. And it's so worth it! It makes such a great gift! And they keep my feet nice and snuggly warm. Like I said, they are my ALL-TIME favorite slippers.Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-70060585168766623142007-02-02T08:32:00.000-08:002007-02-02T08:42:00.516-08:00SOCKS!!Ok, so I've attempted to knit socks before... twice. But I never got past a few inches of the cuff. I kept reading in these knitting books I got for Christmas that knitting socks is awesome and once you knit a pair, you're hooked, etc. So, I was DETERMINED to knit some socks. I bought some handpainted expensive sock yarn on etsy.com with some of my Christmas money, decided on a pattern and began. AND, I actually finished a pair!! Not only that, I found more yarn that I had started socks on awhile ago and finished ANOTHER pair! The only thing I have yet to master is to get the two socks to be the exact same size. I seem to have a problem with footwear and making one bigger than the other. But you can't really tell. Anyways, here's the socks I made in the handpainted yarn (using Size 2 DPN's... talk about tiny needles!)...

And on my feet...

And the sassy stripes socks (using Size 3 DPN's)...

So, yeah, I had fun making the socks. And, I will be making more in the future.... Ok, I'll say it... I'm hooked.Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-68860533384055971362007-01-31T10:12:00.000-08:002007-01-31T10:24:46.579-08:00A couple FO's (finished objects)I've been knitting up a storm lately. So, I'm here to post pics... Here's just 2 little things I whipped up this past week. First, we have "Fetching" (pattern found on knitty.com). I made these for a friend of mine.

Next, we have a super funky Coffee Press cozy I made up from a stitch pattern book. The stitch is called the 3 color Honeycomb stitch. I used size 8 DPN's and cheap acrylic yarn from my huge stash. It's basically just a tube that slides onto the coffee press. You have to take apart the coffee press to get it on and off but oh well. It works.

Plus, my gauge swatch turned into a wrist warmer! How cool is that?

I've been having fun and keeping busy (as you can see). I will post more later...Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-766354815633452554.post-33497819988811672902006-12-21T07:32:00.000-08:002006-12-21T07:35:53.688-08:00My first entry!I've decided to start a blog to feature all the knit and crochet items I'm working on. Many people have asked me, "So, where's your website?". Since I haven't actually done that, I figured I gotta start somewhere. So, here goes... check back to see what I'm working on if you're interested!Mair-Wearhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09827257642461655076noreply@blogger.com0
